ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK RUMPUT LAUT Gracilaria sp TERHADAP BAKTERI Escherichia coli DAN Stapylococcus aureus
Seaweed Gracilaria sp is one of the natural ingredients that does not cause resistance to disease in a living organism because it has a secondary metabolite that can kill bacteria. The purpose of this research was to perform the extraction of bioactive compounds suspected of Gracilaria sp as antibacterial of determine the growth inhibition zone of pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus from Gracilaria sp seaweed extract and determine the concentration of minimum resistance (MIC) of extracts of Gracilaria sp bacterial growth pathogens. The research has been held in December 2010 - January 2011. Preparation of seaweed extract used the method of maceration, while the test of antibacterial activity by using agar diflusion method. The results showed that the extract Gracilaria sp can inhibit the growth of the bacteria E.coli and S. aureus that indicated by clear zone around the extract. The diameter size of clear zone for bacteria E. coli was 14.33 ± 3.22 mm, and for the bacterium S. aureus was 11.33 ± 0.58 mm. Bacteria E. coli showed a smaller resistance for extract of Gracilaria sp than the bacteria S. aureus. Minimum inhibitory concentration of extract of Gracilaria sp against bacterial species E. coli and S. aureus is at concentration of 0.05%.
