Thoroughly revised and update in this second edition, metal cutting principles identifies the major problem areas of metal cutting during the production of mechanical components. it present the latest findings on the relationships between metal cutting and physics,chemeistry, and the behavior of materials. it also relates metal cutting to the engineering sciences of heat transfer,solid mechanics, and surface science (tribology). an analysis of the basic two-dimensional process is followed by a concideration of three dimensional examples, with special attetion given temperatures, tool wear, tool life , and the integrity of the finished surface. machining economics and process optimization are also discussed. in addition, the text includes a chapter on applications that take advantage of the unusual physical and chemical conditions that occur during cutting.
