Generally, damage to bananas is caused by disease, for example, banana bunchy top virus (BBTV). BBTV disease is transmitted by the banana aphid Pentalonia nigronervosa Coquerel (Hemiptera: Aphididae) and is widespread in almost all over the world. This research was conducted at the Insectariun and Experimental garden of Department of Pests and Plant Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, starting from June 2021 using a randomized block design (RAK) method with 4 treatments and 5 replications, in each treatment consisted of 3 plants as samples. The treatments used were 0. 24, 48 and 72 hours treatment of passing infected vectors on Belitung taro. The 0-hour treatment was the treatment without using passing plants, while the 24, 48, and 72-hour treatments used aphids that had been passed on the Belitung taro plant first before being placed onto healty banana plants. This study aims to determine the biology of P. nigronervosa aphids that breed on Belitung taro plants (Xanthosoma sagittifolium) and to determine the efficiency of BBTV transmission by P. nigronervosa aphids as vectors of Banana Bunchy Top Virus after being passed on to Belitung taro plants. The results showed that the aphid P. nigronervosa can live and reproduce well on the taro plant in Belitung, this shows that the taro plant can be an alternative host for the aphid P. nigronervosa, with each instar age of 1-4 days and the age of imago 29- 33 days with a reproductive period ranging from 25-29 days. The number of tillers ranged from 51-65.. The infestation of P. nigronervosa aphids on banana plants that had previously been passed on the Belitung taro plant did not affect the efficiency of the P. nigronervosa aphids in transmitting the banana dwarf virus.
