Army worm (Spodoptera litura F.) is one economically important pest causing problems to farmers in increasing the yield of cowpea. S. litura is important pest of food crops and estate crops. This research was aimed at knowing the best organic waste to be used to culture B. thuringiensis and the performance of surfactant Trietanolamina (TEA) in increasing the mortality of S. litura. The research was conducted in the Laboratory of Entomologi, Department of Plant Pests and Disease, Faculty of Agriculture Sriwijaya University, from May to August 2021. The experiment was arranged in a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (FCRD) with 2 factors i.e surfactant (with and without surfactant TEA) and the second factor was culturing media for B. thuringiensis consisting of 5 levels i.e rice bran, rice washing water, liquid tofu by product, bio-urine and Nutrient broth. Each treatment was replicated 5 times. Parameters observed were spore density, insect mortality, symptoms of infected insect, larval size, leaf area consumed, infected insect development, room temperature and humidity. Collected data was analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Honesty Significant Difference (HSD) The conclusion is that organic wastes affect the growth of B.thuringiensis. The best organic waste in supporting the growth of B.thuringiensis. was Biourine. The addition of surfactant Trietanomin (TEA) to bio-insecticide affected the mortality of S. litura larvae with the highest mortality was found in treatment 2 (rice washing water and treatment 4 (Biourine).
