ADVANCED Topics in Finite Element Analysis of Structures: WITH MATHEMATICA® and MATLAB® COMPUTATIONS
This book is intended for a second on finite elements. It is assumed that the read ars are familiar with the basic concepts of finite elemenbt analysis that are covered in the author’s book fundamental finite element analysis: with mathematica and matlab computation, john wiley % sons, 2005.
As was the case with that book, the goal pf the present book is to keep an appropriate balance between the theory, generality, and the practical applications of the finite alement method. The wor dadvanced in the title of the book refers primarily to the subject mater, not to is presentation. Starting with the governing differential equation , a consistent wighted residual approach is used to formulate all element in multifield formulation sthis approach cleary distinguishes between equations the are being stasfied exactly and those that are statisfied in an approximate weak sense. The same approch is used even for nonlinear problems. This is in contrast to most existing literature, which relies on using as clearly as possible, most derivations use explicit matrix notation instead of compact but sometimes diffcult to follow, indicial notation. All computational details are fully explained, and numerouse saxamples associated with finite elements, extensive use of matlab and mathematica is made in the book. All necessary computation sare readily apparent from these implementations
