EFEKTIVITAS BIOINSEKTISIDA BACILLUS THURINGIENSIS DIPERBANYAK PADA BERBAGAI MACAM LIMBAH CAIR TERHADAP MORTALITAS LARVA ORYCTES RHINOCEROS (COLEOPTERA : SCARABAEIDAE)
Oryctes rhinoceros is one of tha main pests of oil palm in Indonesia, especially in the young plantations. O. rhinoceros beetle infesting the shot of oil palm causing the damage of growing point which finally retard the growth and development of the palm. The objectives of the research were to determine the spore density of B. thuringiensis cultured in liquid wastes and the mortality of O. rhinoceros larvae treated with the bacterium. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments i.e. cow bio-urine, coconut water, liquid rice barn, liquid tofu by product, molases and nutrient broth (NB). Two Bacillus thuringiensis isolates were obtained from Laboratory of Entomology , Department of Plant Pest and Disease Faculty of Agriculture Sriwijaya University. The highest spore density was found in C14 isolate cultured in bio-urine + coconut water amounted to 13.19 x 1013 spores/ml, while the lowest was found in C15 isolate cultured in bio-urine + molases 5% 12,63 x 1013 spores/ml. O. rhinoceros infected by B. thuringiensis showed initial symptom as inactivity, color change to blackish , less appetite, and smelly. The highest mortality was found in isolate C14 cultured in bio-urine + coconut water amounted to 100 %, while the lowest was found in C14 isolate cultured in rice bran + bio-urine amounted to 44,44%.
