PENGUJIAN JENIS PAKAN DALAM PEMELIHARAAN ORYCTES RHINOCEROS (COLEOPTERA : SCARABAEIDAE) DI LABORATORIUM
Oil palm belongs to Arecaceae family and is a good source of botanical oil. Distribution of the palm in Indonesia has covered several provinces The biggest challenge in developing of oil palm plantation area is the infestation of pest. One of the important pest of oil palm is rhino beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros). This research was conducted in Entomological Laboratory, Department of Plant Pest and Disease Faculty of Agriculture Sriwijaya University from April to August 2021. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 7 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were: (P1) empty oil palm frond (P1), oil palm leaf frond (P2), oil palm male flower (P3) and decayed oil palm trunk (P4) decayed coconut trunk (P5), dry oil palm leaves (P6) and no food/control (P7). Parameter observed included larval mortality, larval body changes, larval faces weight, room conditions. The results showed that the highest mortality was found in treatment P7 amounted to 91.67% while the lowest was found in P5 amounted to 8,33%. The highest average of larval body weight was found in treatment P6 amounted to 23.75 grams while the lowest was found in treatment P7 amounted to 0.75 gram The highest average of larval body length was found in treatment P5 amounted to 7.13 cm while the lowest was found in treatment P7 amounted to 0.58 cm. The highest average of larval feces weight was found in treatment P 5 amounted to 23.50 grams, while the lowest was found in treatment P7 amounted to 0,25 gram.
