STUDI PEMBUATAN DAN KARAKTERISASI ELEKTRODA ALKALINE FUEL CELL (AFC) HASIL ELEKTRODEPOSISI PLATINA (Pt) PADA BACKING LAYER KARBON (C)
A research has been done about study of preparation and characterization of Alkaline Fuel CelI (AFC) electrode resulted from electrodeposition of platinum (Pt) on backing layer carbon (C). The First step of this research was to make of backing layer that continued with analyzing of hydrophobicity and conductivity value. Electrodeposition was carried out on backing layer with variation of platinum mass at voltage and time constant, and then electrode was characterized its conductivity, deposited mass of Pt and physical surface of electrode, analysis performance of electrochemical electrode by cyclic voltammetry, and analysis microstructure of deposited electrode surface and catalyst containing by using EDX-SEM. The result showed that the average conductivities of surface and cross sectional backing layer were 1.717. 10"1 mhos and 2.3722.10‘2 mhos, respectively. After electrodeposition, average surface conductivity value of electrode increased to 1.8434.1 O'1 mhos while average conductivity of cross sectional did not. Analysis of the highest mass of deposited Pt was produced at Pt 60 mg with the measured current at 0.06 A and 0.003 A/cm2 of current density. The resuit of voltammogram from cyclic voltammetry showed that two variations of Pt mass were good for Pt/C electrode i.e Pt mass 80 mg and 100 mg, and based on SEMEDX at shooting spot, electrode composition with the highest mass Pt was Pt 80 mg with the percentage of 66.83%.
