PENGGUNAAN CAHAYA LAMPU PADA TEKNIK AEROPONIK SEBAGAI SUMBRR ENERGI UNTUK BUDIDAYA TANAMAN SELADA (Lactuca sativa var. crispa L.)
This study was conducted at the planting house with size of2mxlmx2m using aeroponic system within a chamber. It was carried out ffom December 2004 to January 2005. The experimental design used in this study was Completely Randomized Design consisting of three levels of radiation period and four replications for each level. These levels were Pi (12 hours radiation period), P2 (16 hours radiation period), and P3 (20 hours radiation period), respectively. The result showed that treatment of radiation period level had highly significant effect on the increase of leaf number and total leaf area, as well as had significant effect on the increase of crop height, wet weight, and dry weight of lettuce crop. The observation of crop height and leaf number was conducted since the first week up to four week. The highest crop height average was found at P2 treatment with magnitude of 20,43 cm, whereas the lowest crop height average was found at P3 treatment with magnitude of 14, .41 cm. The greatest leaf number average was foundat P2 treatment with magnitude of 12,00 leaves, whereas the least leaf number found at P3 treatment with magnitude of 8,63 leaves. The observation of total leaf area, wet weight, and dry weight was done on the fourth week or after the lettuce crop was harvested. The result showed that the highest average of total leaf area was found at P2 treatment with magnitude of 82229 mm2 and the lowest average of total leaf area was found at P3 treatment with magnitude of 51229 mm2. The highest average of wet weight was found at P2 treatment with magnitude of 41,20 g and the lowest average of wet weight was found at P3 treatment with magnitude of 34,64 g. The highest average of dry weight was found at P2 treatment with magnitude of 2,.27 g and the lowest average of dry weight was found at P3 treatment with magnitude of was 1,69 g. Light intensity of lamp used for each treatment was 38955,19 lux or equivalent to 3620,4 footcandle (fc). The average of daily intensity of sun light outside the chamber that had a shelter was 3796 fc or equivalent to 40844 lux. The addition of light to lettuce crop by using TL-type lamp showed that it could be used as energy source. Thiswas shown by observation results of crop growth and light intensity measurement The best radiation period was 16 hours because it gave the highest yield of lettuce crop.
