GAMBARAN DIABETES MELITUS TIPE II TERKONTROL DAN TIDAK TERKONTROL TERHADAP PERIODONTITIS DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease with a prevalence of 6.2% in 2020 in Indonesia. The clinical manifestation in the oral cavity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is periodontitis. Periodontitis is a periodontal disease that causes progressive destruction of the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone with pocket formation and recession. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of controlled and uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus for periodontitis in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Methods: This research uses quantitative research methods with cross sectional research. Sampling in this study was done by collecting medical records in a non-randomized way (purposive sampling) as many as 60 subjects who will fill out the questionnaire. Results: A total of 60 subjects who met the study inclusion criteria, 30 subjects with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus (HbA1C>8%) and 30 subjects with controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus (HbA1C 6.5-8%), the highest periodontal tissue appearance was found in the number of loss of >6 teeth and swollen gums were 23 subjects each in the uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus group. Conclusion: Patients with controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus have better periodontal condition than uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus. Patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus have more complaints of periodontal tissue such as bleeding gums, bad breath, loose teeth, swollen gums, and calculus.
