COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease-19) is a disease that attacks the respiratory tract in humans and it is caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). This virus was first discovered in Wuhan City in December 2019 and so far no specific antiviral treatment has been found and proven effective in the treatment of COVID-19. According to several recent studies, there has been an increase in the use of antibiotics during the COVID-19 pandemic, including in pediatric patients. The increase can be influenced by several factors. The high and irrational use of antibiotics in pediatric patients can lead to an increase in the incidence of antibiotic resistance and also increase the risk of toxicity. This study was conducted to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the pattern of antibiotic use in pediatric inpatients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This type of research is an observational analytic study with a crosssectional approach. The data used in the form of secondary data obtained from the Pharmacy Installation and Medical Record Installation at RSUP Dr.Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in the period March 1st, 2019August 31th, 2019 and March 1st, 2020August 31th, 2020. This study used a total sampling technique, then the research data were analyzed univariate and bivariate using the chi-square test. The results showed an increase in the rate of antibiotic use in pediatric inpatients by 7.60% when compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the results of these studies, it can be concluded that there was a change in the pattern of antibiotic use in pediatric inpatients at RSUP Dr.Mohammad Hoesin Palembang between before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
