Background: Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the world and has claimed about 17.9 million lives per year. One of the biggest causes of death from heart disease is cardiac arrest. According to the American Heart Association, the incidence of cardiac arrest outside the hospital (OHCA) is more than in the hospital (IHCA). The increasing incidence of OHCA, especially in the workplace, it is necessary to take steps to increase the knowledge and attitudes of workers regarding first aid for OHCA sufferers in the form of basic life support. This study aims to determine the effect of counseling using applications on the level of knowledge and attitudes of respondents regarding basic life support. Methods: This type of research is Pre-Experimental with One-Group Pretest-Postest design. Research data sourced from primary data in the form of questionnaires given to respondents. The respondents of this study were education staff from the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University in November 2021. The sample was taken using a total sampling technique that met the inclusion criteria. Statistical analysis using Wilcoxon and Chi-square test. Results: From the results of the study, obtained 43 respondents. In the pretest results, 36 respondents with good knowledge (83.7%) and 41 people (95.3%) had good attitudes. In the posttest results, 43 people (100%) have good knowledge and 42 people (97.7%) have good attitudes. The Wilcoxon test shows that there is an average difference so that the application affects the level of knowledge with a value of p = 0.000 and the attitude of the respondents with a value of p = 0.000. There is no significant relationship between general characteristics and the level of knowledge and attitudes. Conclusion: Application-based counseling is able to increase the knowledge and attitudes of respondents regarding basic life support for lay people with good overall scores. There is no significant relationship between general characteristics such as age, gender, last educator, marital status, BHD training history, and comorbidities on the level of knowledge and attitudes.
