PERBANDINGAN EFEK ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK ETANOL KULIT JERUK LIMAU DAN KULIT JERUK PURUT TERHADAP STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS
Introduction: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a pathogen bacteria that commonly found in the fail root canal treatment. The success of root canal treatment can be achieved through the root canal condition that is free from bacteria. Thus, the natural agents with antibacterial effects are needed. Ethanolic extract of limau peel and kaffir lime peel contains active substances such as flavonoids, phenols, tannins, alkaloids, steroids/terpenoids, and essential oils which have been proven to have an antibacterial effect. Aim: The purpose of this study was to compare the antibacterial effect of limau peel and kaffir lime peel ethanol extract against Staphylococcus aureus. Method: This study was in-vitro laboratory research. Limau peel and kaffir lime peel were extracted using 96% ethanol by maceration method. The antibacterial effects of limau peel and kaffir lime peel were evaluated using microdilution method to determine minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). The ethanol extract of limau peel and kaffir lime peel used for the MBC test were in the concentration range of 0,195-100%. Result: This study showed that ethanol extract of limau peel and kaffir lime peel had an MBC value of 12,5%. Conclusion: Ethanol extract of limau peel and kaffir lime peel had similar antibacterial effects against S. aureus. Keywords: antibacterial, kaffir lime peel, limau peel, Staphylococcus aureus.
