STUDI KONVERSI FRUKTOSA MENJADI 5-HIDROKSIMETILFURFURAL DAN ASAM LEVULINAT DENGAN KATALIS ASAM KLORIDA DAN ZEOLIT
Conversion of fructose to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and conversion of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to levulinic acid using hydrochioric acid and zeolite in water as a medium in various reaction conversion temperature has been carried out. Product of reaction conversion was monitored by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and analized quantitatively using GC and GC-MS. The results showed that fructose can be converted to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural using hydrochioric acid as catalyst gave % yield 0.29-0.33(%v/v), in the reaction time 1-15 hours and temperature 90°C. Reaction at temperature 80°C and 100°C did not gave 5-hydroxymethylfurfural as a main product, similar phenomena with zeolite as a catalyst also did not gave main product in the reaction conversion. They use both of hydrochioric acid and zeolite gave 2-furancarboxaldehyde. Conversion of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to levulinic acid using hydrochioric acid as a catalyst gave % yield 0.47-1.49 (%v/v) at 90°C. Reaction temperature at 80°C and 100°C did not gave product reaction. The use of zeolite as a catalyst diod not gave levulinic acid as a main product but several byproducts obtained such as benzoic acid 4-hydroxy-methyl ester, tetrahydro-4H-pyran-4-ol, 2-acetamidophenol, and mannitol.
