STUDI PENGGUNAAN KATALIS POLIOKSOMETALAT DALAM KONVERSI SELULOSA DARI KAYU GELAM (Metaleuca leucadendron Linn) MENJADI ASAM LEVULINAT
Extract of cellulose from Gelam wood (Melaleuca leucadendron Linn) has been carried out using methanol and various concentration of hydrochloric acid. Cellulose was characterized using FT-IR spectroscopy. Cellulose from Gelam wood was converted into levulinic acid by F^BW^CUo] as catalyst at 80°C and water as reaction medium. The result showed that cellulose was extracted using 5% (v/v) acid. The product of extraction is similar with cellulose Standard. The yield of Levulinic acid was identified using Gas Chromatography. Conversion of cellulose using HsfBW^O^] as catalyst reached at one hour with levulinic acid 2,6%. Cellulose from Gelam wood can not be converted into levulinic acid due to proton from acid was not destruct the Chemical bond of glycoside in raw starting material.
