FORMULASI DAN UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI GEL PEMBAWA SUBMIKROPARTIKEL EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN UBI JALAR UNGU (IPOMOEA BATATAS (L.) LAMK) TERHADAP STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS SECARA IN VITRO
Many cases of Staphylococcus aureus resistance to various antibiotics have been found, including 51% against erythromycin, 87,56% against penicilin and 75% against ampicilin-amoxicilin so that an alternative treatment is needed to avoid it. Purple sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lamk) contain flavonoid compounds which have antibacterial activity by inhibiting nucleic acid and protein synthesis, inhibiting cell membrane function and inhibiting energy metabolism in bacteria. The preparation of gel with the active ingredient ethanol extract of purple sweet potato leaves that has been made in the form of submicroparticles is done to increase the stability of flavonoids and increase their antibacterial effect. This study aims to determine the physical characteristics of the optimum formula gel carrying ethanol extract of purple sweet potato leaves in the form of microparticles with variations of HPMC concentration 3%, 5%, and 10% and to get the diameter value of the inhibition zone formed against S. aureus. The diameter of the inhibition zone is measured using a ruler. The characterization test results showed that the ethanol extract of purple sweet potato leaves contained flavonoids with a moisture content of 7,33 ± 0,58%. The increased HPMC concentration had an effect on homogeneity, decreased spreadability and washability of gel and increased adhesion, pH and viscosity. The results showed that the best formula in this study was in the treatment group I (F1) the HPMC concentration was 3% with a pH value, homogeneity, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, washability, and stability respectively of 7,40 ± 0,04; homogeneous; 9093,90±248,19 cps ; 4,27 ± 0,30 cm; 45,33 ± 2,52 seconds; 11,67 ± 1.53 mL and stable. The results of the statistical test for antibacterial activity in vitro showed that there was a significant difference between the positive treatment groups for each treatment group (p
