Stunting refers to nutritional problem, both in poor and developing countries. Many factors cause stunting, including the mother’s characteristics, the habit of breastfeeding, the habit of feeding, and the habit of health care. This research was aimed at finding out the relationship between parenting and stunting event to Elementary School students. The study used a cross sectional design and was clarified by in-depth interviews. The research population was elementary school students, and a sample of 97 people with cluster sampling technique and the respondents who were interviewed were 6 informants. Quantitative data collection using questionnaires, height measurement based on anthropometric index. Data were analyzed by chi square test. This research was done at elementary schools in Tuah Negeri Sub-District, Musi Rawas Regency in June 2020. The results showed that the proportion of stunting children amounted to 30.9%, where most of the stunting children had normal height (not stunting) amounting to 69.1%. The bivariate analysis showed that the variables related to stunting event to the elementary scholl students are mother’s job (p- value=0.111), the habit of breastfeeding (p-value=0.000), the habit of feedibg (p- value=0.000), and the habit of health care (p-value=0.014). Meanwhile, the variables not related to stunting event is the mother’s education (p-value=0.645). In addition, the multivariate analysis showed that the variable of the habit of breastfeeding is the dominant variable towards stunting event to elementary school students. Therefore, it is suggested that a more intensive personal approach be done as a preventive and promotive effort in changing the behavior or parenting to increase the nutritional status by introducinggoodbehavior of the mother to the children with normal height and spreading that good behavior to the mother of stunting children, as well as other parents.
