UJI EFEKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI JUS KULIT MANGGIS (Gariana mangostana L.) TERHADAP Streptococcus mutans = ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECTIVENESS OF MANGOSTEEN RIND JUICE (Garcinia mangostana L.)AGAINST Streptococcus mutans
Public awareness towards health is increasing, including in terms of consumption of food and beverages. Juice is a functional form that utilizes active compounds from fruits and vegetables. Mangosteen rind contains antibacterial compounds, such as xantones, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins which have been shown to inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria, one of which is Streptococcus mutans. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of mangosteen rind juice (Garcinia mangostana L.) in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a post-test control group design. The treatment group used 100% concentration of mangosteen rind juice. The positive control group used chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% and the negative control group used distilled water. The antibacterial inhibition test used the disc diffusion method. Data were analyzed by One Way Anova test and Post Hoc test (Tukey HSD). Results: The results showed that the inhibition zone diameter of the mangosteen rind juice group was around 13.33 mm SD 0.76, the chlorhexidine gluconate inhibition zone 0.2% was around 24.0 mm SD 0.50 and the distilled water inhibition zone was about 0 mm SD 0. One Way Anova test and test results. There was a significant difference in Post Hoc between all study groups and the control group (p
