DAYA ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK BIJI DUKU (Lansium domesticum Corr.) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Enterococcus faecalis
Background: Enterococcus faecalis bacteria was the main bacteria causing persistent periradicular infections after endodontic treatment. Elimination of bacteria can be done using irrigation agent such as chlorhexidine. Chlorhexidine has several drawbacks. Currently, natural ingredients continue to be developed because they are composed with secondary metabolite compounds that have antibacterial activity and considered safer. One of the natural ingredients that have antibacterial activity is duku seeds. Duku seed extract was reported to contain alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, terpenoids, and tannins. Objective: To determine the antibacterial potency of duku seed extract to inhibit the growth of Enterococcus faecalis. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental in vitro study and consisted of 6 groups (duku seed extract concentrations of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100% and 2% chlorhexidine). Inhibition test was carried out using the disc diffusion method to observe the clear zone formed around the disc paper. The research data were tested by the Shapiro-Wilk and Independent T-test. Results: The largest zone of inhibition was formed in the 2% chlorhexidine group with an average inhibition zone diameter of 17.88 mm and was included in the strong category, 100% duku seed extract was included in the weak category with an inhibition zone of 5.04 mm, while duku seed extract at concentration of 50%, 25%, 12.5%, and 6.25% did not have the ability to inhibit the growth of Enterococcus faecalis bacteria. Conclusion: Duku seed extract at concentration of 100% had antibacterial potency against Enterococcus faecalis bacteria.
