GAMBARAN KADAR ALBUMIN DAN HEMOGLOBIN PADA PASIEN LANJUT USIA DI POLIKLINIK GERIATRI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 2019-2020
Albumin is the most abundant protein in the blood plasma and has many important functions. The condition where the albumin levels are below normal value is called hypoalbuminemia. Hemoglobin is a protein that act as a carrier of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the body. The condition where the hemoglobin levels are below normal value is called anemia. Hypoalbuminemia and anemia are commonly found in elderly patients. These conditions happen physiologically and could get worse because of the underlying diseases. Hypoalbuminemia and anemia increase mortality and morbidity in elderly patients, therefore it is important to monitor the albumin and hemoglobin levels. This study aims to determine the description of albumin and hemoglobin levels in elderly patients at Geriatric Polyclinic in RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang time period 2019-2020. This study was an descriptive observational study. The study was conducted from September-December 2021 and used the medical record. The sampling method was carried out using the Total Sampling technique. The data processed and analyzed using univariate analysis. The result showed that the elderly patients at Geriatric Polyclinic who had normal albumin levels are 64.3% and elderly patients who had below normal albumin levels are 35.7%. In addition with albumin levels, the elderly patients at Geriatric Polyclinic who had normal hemoglobin levels are 28.6% and elderly patients who had below normal hemoglobin levels are 71.4%. Hypoalbuminemia and anemia were most commonly found in the 60-74 years age group, female gender, and patients with history of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and osteoarthritis. Based on this study, it can be concluded that most of the elderly patients at the Geriatric Polyclinic have normal albumin levels and low hemoglobin levels.
