EFIKASI EKSTRAK KAYU MANIS (Cinnamomum burmannii) TERHADAP KADAR MELATONIN PADA TIKUS PUTIH GALUR WISTAR MODEL INSOMNIA
Lack of sleep in a person can cause serious health problems. The loss of sleep time can be caused by insomnia, which is a disorder that is quite common in most people. One of the hormones that help the process of sleep is melatonin. Melatonin or can be called the "hormone of darkness". Deficiency or inhibition of melatonin formation in the body can have an impact on poor sleep quality, resulting in insomnia. Cinnamomum burmani or cinnamon is a plant that is known for its many benefits. The active compound contained in cinnamon, namely Cinnamaldehyde, has the ability to overcome insomnia disorders. This study was conducted to examine the efficacy of cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii) on melatonin levels. There were 30 male rats divided into 6 groups. Each group will be given a different treatment. The test animals were induced by p-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA) so they suffered from insomnia. Mice that have been given treatment, measured levels of melatonin using ELISA. After analyzing the data, it was found that giving EKM for each dose was proven to increase levels of melatonin in test animals. This explains that EKM has efficacy on melatonin levels in white wistar rats.
