PROSES PENINGKATAN NILAI TAMBAH PASIR TIMAH UNTUK MEMENUHI KEBUTUHAN BAHAN BAKU INDUSTRI ANODA DALAM SKALA LABORATORIUM
The level of Sn in the tin sand concentrate must meet the standard criteria for making anodes, one of which is the Nexelion anode, which is 27.3%. To meet the requirements for these grades, tin sand needs to be processed first to increase the value of the mineral cassiterite and stannum elements in it. In this study, the tin sand sample used came from PT. Timah Tbk., processing is carried out using a pan american jig. The instrument variables determined in this experiment consisted of water discharge (26 liters/minute, 33 liters/minute and 36 liters/minute) and bed thickness (7 mm, 12 mm and 17 mm) and processing time (6 minutes, 11 minutes and 16 minutes). The experimental results can be explained that the water discharge that is too heavy will cause heavy minerals to also be carried away with the flow of water, while if it is too weak then the concentrate that settles is not only heavy minerals but also light minerals. Processing time with a duration that is too short will cause heavy minerals to not be completely separated from light minerals, if it is too long it will cause other minerals that have a specific gravity almost the same as tin to also be concentrated. The thickness of the bed that is too thick will cause the space to trap heavy minerals to be smaller but if it is too shallow it will cause the impurity minerals to also be concentrated. From the experiment, 19 samples were obtained that met the requirements for the level of anode manufacture, in this experiment the highest level of Sn was 34.93% and the lowest was 21.91%.
