HUBUNGAN FREKUENSI TRANSFUSI DARAH DENGAN STATUS GIZI PADA PASIEN ANAK TALASEMIA MAYOR DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Thalassemia is a hemolytic disease that is inherited as autosomal recessive and can cause chronic anemia which is requiring repeated blood transfusions. Continous and long-term blood transfusions can led to the excess iron in the body. One of the complications of the accumulation of iron is growth disorders. Objective: The aim of this study was to dertemine the relations between blood transfusion with nutritional status of children with major thalassemia in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach. The relation between the two variables will be analyzed using the chi square test. Results: The results of the study from 75 respondents showed that 33 men (44%) and 42 women (56%). 33 respondents (50,7%) perform transfusion ≤ 12 times a year. 12 respondents (16%) with underweight, 52 respondents (69,3%) with normal nutrition, and 11 respondents (14,7%) with overweight Conclusion: Based on the results of analysis showed no relation between blood transfusion frequency and the nutritional status of children with major thalassemia mayor (p=0,573; p>0,05).
