Diabetes mellitus and hypertension are chronic diseases that often occur simultaneously. One of the lifestyle factors that play an important role in preventing complications in DM is physical activity. This study aims to analyze the correlation between the physical activity shortage on the hypertension incidence in diabetes mellitus patients in Indonesia. This research used the cross-sectional secondary data Indonesian Basic Health Survey 2018 (Riskesdas 2018) with the multi-stage sampling technique. The sample in this study were all DM patients in Indonesia who met the inclusion criteria and who have taken blood pressure measurements amounting to 9807 people. Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression risk factor models. The results of univariate analysis showed that 38,2% of DM patients who suffered hypertension and there are 58% patients DM had physical activity shortage. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between physical activity shortage on the hypertension incidence in DM patients (p = 0.006) and the results of multivariate analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between physical activity shortage on the hypertension incidence after being controlled by variables of age, gender, smoking habit, length of time. DM history, anti-DM drugs consumption, obesity, and central obesity (95% CI = 1,213 (1,072-1,372). The results of this study are expected to be the basis for maintaining productivity and maintaining health for DM patients, especially through increasing physical activity to prevent complications and reduce the risk of hypertension in DM patients.
