Background: Ptosis is a drooping of the upper eyelid resulting in a narrowing of the palpebral fissure. Data on the worldwide incidence of ptosis are not yet available but there are limited data in certain countries. In Indonesia, data on the incidence of ptosis are not yet available. Ptosis can cause visual impairment and affect appearance. Accurate identification of ptosis as well as its etiology and severity are critical to successful management. The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical picture and characteristics of ptosis patients. Methods: This research is a descriptive observational study. The data used are medical record of patients diagnosed with ptosis at RSUP Moh. Hoesin Palembang for the period January 2018 to December 2020. As many as 44 data were obtained as the population and 37 data were used as samples with a total sampling technique. Results: The results showed that the most ptosis occurred in the age group under 20 and 40-59 years as many as 11 people (29.7%), men as many as 20 people (54.1%), left unilateral as many as 20 people (54, 1%), acquired as many as 31 people (83.3%), neurogenic as many as 14 people (37.8%), with an average PFH of 5.19±2.526, the severe degree was 22 people (59.5%), fair of levator function quality as many as 16 people (43.2%), positive bell's phenomenon was 33 people (89.2%), negative lid lag was 31 people (83.8%), diplopia was 9 people (24.3%) and strabismus was 11 people (29.7%) Conclusion: Clinical manifestations and characteristics of ptosis patients can determine the management and surgical technique to be performed.
