PREVALENSI DAN ETIOLOGI PASIEN LAGOFTALMOS DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Lagophthalmos, this word comes from Greek language which “Lagos,” means rabbit,” and “ophtalmos,” means eye, in this case people believe that rabbits sleep with their eyes open. The primary cause of lagophthalmos is facial nerve paralysis which can cause paralytic lagophthalmos to occur. In comparison, facial nerve paralysis happens to 30-40 per 100.000 people in the United States. The facial nerve innervates two musculus frontalis to raise the eyebrows and musculus orbicularis oculi to close the eyebrows. Infection, trauma, and neoplasia became one from other etiology that can lead to the occurence of lagophthalmos. These etiologies can interfere with the facial nerve function so that the palpebrae cannot fully close both consciously and unconsciously; even worst it can disturb the lacrimation function. This research is a descriptive observational with cross-sectional design. The data was then processed with the SPSS program. The occurence of lagophthalmos in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang most happened in 2018. Most of the patients are female and in the age group of 35-44 years old. Tumour, grave’s orbitopathy, iatrogenic accident, and unknown etiology happen to be the etiology of lagophthalmos in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang.
