PENGETAHUAN, SIKAP, DAN PERILAKU PASIEN HEMODIALISIS KRONIK TERHADAP COVID-19 DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Introduction COVID-19 is a disease caused by a new coronavirus that has killed millions of people. Hemodialysis is the main renal replacement therapy in patients with terminal stage of chronic kidney disease. The number of comorbid diseases and repeated meetings for a long time in chronic hemodialysis patients will increase the risk of virus transmission, especially the COVID-19 virus. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and practices of chronic hemodialysis patients and COVID-19 so that it can help policy makers to make educational strategies and minimize the spread of COVID-19 in hemodialysis installations.
Method A cross-sectional study conducted at the Hemodialysis Installation, Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in October 2021. The research sample was chronic hemodialysis patients who fulfill the inclusion criteria, aged ≥18 years, willing and able to fill out the questionnaire, so that 101 respondents were obtained. The data of this study came from the results of questionnaires given to patients and processed using the SPSS application.
Results Among the 101 respondents, 53.5% were male, 27.7% aged 55-64 years, 36.6% with intermediate education level, and 41.6% were not employed. The prevalence of hemodialysis patients with a history of COVID-19 was 25.7%. Patients with a good level of knowledge are 76%, patients with good attitudes are 55.4%, and patients with bad practices towards COVID-19 are 50.5%. In this study, poor knowledge almost doubled the risk of getting COVID-19, bad attitude 1.2 times risked for getting COVID-19, even though both were statistically not significant, while practices was statistically not related to COVID-19.
Conclusion Knowledge and attitude of chronic hemodialysis patients towards COVID-19 is good. However, the patient's practices is still classified as bad. More massive and specific education is needed to increase knowledge, attitudes and practices of chronic hemodialysis patients.
