Introduction: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a severe, multisystem autoimmune disease in which a person's immune system attacks their own body. The prevalence of SLE in 2018 was 7.3 cases per 100,000 population, the majority of whom were women of productive age. Neuropsychiatry is a common clinical manifestation in SLE patients in the form of mood disturbances (depression) and anxiety which are 2 times more common in SLE patients compared to healthy individuals. Anxiety disorders were present in 22% of patients with SLE, and 18.2% had depression. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the characteristics of SLE patients with anxiety and depression.
Methods: This research is an observational analytic study with a cross sectional approach. The sample of this study were outpatients with Systemic Lupus Erytomatosus at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic, Dr. Muhammad Hoesin Palembang who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria
Results: From 43 respondents tended to experience mild anxiety and mild to moderate depression. Through the chi-square test by looking at the Fisher’s Exact Test and Likelihood ratio, there was a significant relationship between income and SLE disease activity with the incidence of depression, each of which had a pvalue = 0.046 and a pvalue = 0.010. Meanwhile, the relationship of other characteristics such as age, gender, employment status, income, marital status, number of children, duration of diagnosis, steroid dose, and community of SLE patients had p-value > 0.05, which means that there was no significant relationship.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between income and SLE disease activity with the incidence of depression
Keywords: systemic lupus erythematosus, anxiety, depression, income, duration of diagnosis, duration of treatment, disease activity, steroid dose, community.
