PT Lahat Pulau Pinang Bara Jaya (LPPBJ) is located in Merapi Selatan District, Lahat Regency. PT LPPBJ sets an annual coal production target of 600,000 tonnes. To fulfill this production target, PT LPPBJ open a new pit in the research area, namely pit 2, so it is necessary to have a planned, safe, and economical pit design, and is able to support the achievement of the planned production target. The limit value of economic stripping ratio (BESR) allowed by the company is 4: 1. The pit design was made using Minescape 5.7 software, the slope geometry was designed using the geotechnical recommendations of PT LPPBJ. The research resulted in the design of the LOM pit 2 pit with a total coal reserve of 1,799,636 tons, 5,002,988.1 BCM of overburden and an opening area of 15.86 Ha, which is divided annually according to the planned production target. The width of the mine road in the design is 11 m with a maximum grade of 10%. The overall stripping ratio obtained from the design is 2.78 BCM / ton. Based on the production target and total reserves as well as the 10% loss assumption, the mine life in pit 2 is 2.73 years. The design of the direction of the annual mining stage is made following the direction of coal dip and strike, the working slope is designed with a minimum width of 11 m. The annual pit sequence design is made in 3 sequences where in the initial 2 sequences everything is able to support 100% of the annual coal production target, while in the year 3 sequence design which is the remainder of the previous design it is only able to support 65% of the total annual production target. The designs in the first year are divided into monthly designs with a production target of 50,000 tons of coal every month for 12 months. Disposal area is designed to the south of high wall pit 2, the disposal area will support overburden stripping in year 1 to year 3. The disposal design is designed to have a volume capacity capable of supporting 5,002,988.1 BCM according to the stripping target for the entire mine. The number of digging equipment needed each year consists of 4 units Doosan 520LCA excavators and 18 Units Hino 500 dump trucks.
