The aims of research is to know peat land characteristic in Tanjung Serang Village Ogan Komering Ilir Distric. This research was executed in peat land with observation direction from Tanjung Serang Village, Kayu Agung Sub Distric to Talang Serindang Tujuh, Kayu Agung Sub District and it was done, in March until April 2005. this research used a field observation survey method. The tracks of observation were determined based on satei Iite image interpretation result. Observatory and peat samples were taken every 500 m. The result of observation and peat sampels was classified based on peat maturity criteria, and than some samples were taken as delegete sample. Peat sampels were analyzed at the Soil Physical and Chemistry Laboratories, Soil Science Departement, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University. Peat chemistry characteristic showed that total Nitrogen content have higher value, from 0,96 % to 3,27 %. Organic Carbon percentage content have value around 33,94 % until 46,56 %. C and N ratio have very high value that is 28,73; pH have very acid around 3,6 until 3,96. P-Bray content included to average until very high category. Potassium exchangeable have value 0,35 until 0,26 me/100 gram which included very Iow category. CEC classified from high until very high, bases saturated very low and Alumunium sirfeit classified from low until very high.
