PENGARUH CAMPURAN BAHAN BAKAR PERTALITE-ETANOL TERHADAP EMISI GAS BUANG SEPEDA MOTOR DENGAN CATALYTIC CONVERTER
In the 20th century, the automotive sector experienced very rapid progress, especially in two-wheeled motor vehicles. Two-wheeled motorized vehicles have become an alternative tool for the community in facilitating daily activities, so that market demand for two-wheeled motorized vehicles increases and the use of fossil fuels is directly proportional to the increasing market demand, and the effect of the use of fossil fuels on increasing CO and HC air pollution from the result of the combustion process in the combustion chamber of a two-wheeled motor vehicle. Currently, the fossil fuels licensed for use by two-wheeled motor vehicles are Pertalite, Pertamax 92 and Pertamax Plus 98. This Pertalite fuel replaces the use of Premium fuel which has better quality with an octane number of 90. Ethanol (C5H2OH ) can be a substitute for fossil fuels, Ethanol has a type of liquid that is volatile, flammable and colorless and is more environmentally friendly. Ethanol has an RON of 108.6 and an octane number of 155 for 99% ethanol content. Besides catalytic converter serves to reduce the levels of CO, HC and NOx are dangerous to be environmental friendly. So this study aims to determine the effect of the fuel mixture using a catalytic converter. The research was conducted using a Vega R 2007 4Stroke motorcycle with a mixture of E0, E10 and E20 fuels with variations in engine speed of 1000rpm, 2000rpm, 3000rpm, 4000rp, and 5000rpm using a Standard exhaust and aexhaust Catalytic Converter. The data from the test results from this study the use of pertalite-ethanol fuel mixture and the use of Catalytic Converters can reduce CO levels in standard exhaust E10 by 10%, E20 by 26% while the use ofexhaust Catalytic Converter E0 10%, E10 41% and E20 46%. The decrease in HC levels in standard exhaust E10 is 18% and E20 is 31% while the use ofexhaust is Catalytic Converter 23%, E10 35% and E20 46%. Decreased levels of O2 standard exhaust E10 E20 8% and 11%, while the exhaust Catalytic Converter E0 26%, 30% and E20 E10 32%. At the levels of CO2 has increased to the standard exhaust by 16% E10 and E20 by 23% while the exhaust Catalytic Converter E0 39%, 45% and E20 E10 49% of the measurement results obtained using a gas analyzer. Based on the results of research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the Pertalite-Ethanol fuel mixture and the use of Catalytic Converters can improve the quality of motor vehicle exhaust emissions and improve environmental air quality.
