The increase in population causes many problems such as slum settlements, waste, and other issues. The common problem frequently faced by big cities in Indonesia is the problem of solid waste. The rise in population corresponds to an increase in the amount of waste generated. Waste transportation is often becoming problems, such as inadequate waste transportation equipment, poor conditions of waste transportation equipment, and waste transportation capacity. The rise in waste volume has not been matched by an increase in waste management until now. One of the essential waste management systems is the waste transportation system, which involves a waste transporter. This study aimed to plan the needs of waste transportation equipment in the city of Palembang. The planning of the need for waste transportation equipment was based on population projections and waste generation. The generation rate is calculated using the SNI 1993 based on city-based waste classification. This study was conducted to plan the need for waste transportation equipment for the next six years. This study was located at Sukawinatan Dumpsite (TPA), Palembang. Some essential data were obtained, including the weight of the waste per day, the number of transportation equipment that goes to the dumpsite, the average trip, and the waste density at the dumpsaite. The results of the survey were used to estimate the number of waste transportation equipment required. Based on the findings of this study, the projected waste generation in Palembang City in 2020 was 1.168.880 kg/day with a population of 1.669.828 people, and in 2025, the projected waste generation was 1.212.030 kg/day with a population of 1.731.472 people. The projection of the need for waste transportation equipment in Palembang City in 2026 was either 178 arm roll trucks or 268 dump trucks. The planned waste transporter is an arm roll truck or dump truck. As the population grows, so will the amount of waste produced and the demand for waste transportation equipment
