Forest and land fires (forest fires) are serious environmental issues.Data showed that 99% of forest fires are caused by humans and 0.01% due to natural factors. Forest and line fires occur as the result of corporate’s palm land clearing activites and unscrupulous individual. There are the negative impact of forest and land fires on enviromental, health and economic decline. Therefore, This study aims to describe the environmental communication strategy conducted by WALHI Sumsel in order to emerge people’s awareness on forest and bush fires in South Sumatra. This study uses environmental communication theory according to Manfred Oepen and uses descriptive qualitative method of analysis using the data obtained from five informants consisting of the South Sumatra WALHI Sumsel board of commission. The data collectiong method use in-depth interviews, in addition to complementing the data, observation techniques, literature study and documentation study were used. The results of this study indicate that the dimensions of the environmental communication strategy stage are carried out in a planned manner by looking at the implementation of dimensions one to ten aimed at the community.
