palembang is an international city, a city branding, which is the benchmark for future urban development. entering the modernization era, many regions are competing to develop artistic and cultural potentials that have been passed down by their ancestors and preserved by generations. one of the effects of this modernization is the birth of new types of arts that will continue to develop and experience developments following the era. however, in general, art institutions in indonesia are only focused on traditional culture, although many artists are involved in the field of modern art and foreign art. based on an interview with mr. idris lail, one of the visual laquer art artists in palembang, he said that there is no strategic and interactive place to publish his work so he prefers to display his work in rental buildings and social media. therefore, the existence of an art center is needed. the art center of palembang city can accommodate modern art activities which include fine arts, dance, theater, and music. these modern arts will be facilitated by a performance building/auditorium for performing arts. meanwhile, various forms of art, namely two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art, will be facilitated in the art gallery space.
