The modern era brings very rapid changes in all fields of science and technology, social and economic to the labor market. Particularly, women who are currently part of the labor market. Women who work outside the home are said to play multiple roles. The role of women in the home is called the domestic role and the role of women outside the home is called the public role. The purpose of this study is to find out the background of economic life and the obstacles experienced by women who carry out dual roles as housewives and factory employees at PTPN VII oil palm plantations, Betung Unit, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province using the concept of Talcott Parsons theory. The benefits of this research are it can enrich concepts and theories that support the science of sociology and add insight, mainly in introductory courses in sociology, gender sociology and family sociology. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research method. The results of this study indicate that women who carry out multiple roles have a middle economic background so that they participate in helping their husbands to increase their family's income. Furthermore, the obstacles experienced by women who carry out the dual role of women are the limited time to look after, care for and educate children. The demands of work force women to inevitably leave their children and use a babysitter (nanny) to look after their children while the women are working.
