KARAKTERISTIK Fusarium spp. PENYEBAB PENYAKIT TAJUK PADA TANAMAN KELAPA SAWIT
The objective of this study was to describe morphology and pathogenicity of Fusarium spp. associated with crown disease on oil palm. The study was conducted in Phytopathology Laboratory and experiment field of Plant Pests and Diseases Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from January up to October 2008. The study was used six isolates of Fusarium isolated ffom diseased spear leaflets of young oil palm plantings in Indralaya (Desa Lorok and Fakultas Pertanian Unsri), Banyuasin III (Sembawa) and Betung (PTPN VII). Cultural morphology were described based on characters of isolates grown on PDA and CLA. Pathogenicity of isolates was studied by inoculating culture plugs on wounded unopened spear leaflets of six-month-old oil palm seedlings subjected to normal nitrogen fertilization, excess of nitrogen fertilization and poor drainage condition. The result showed that six isolates studied were identified as F. semitecium, F. solani, and F. denticulatum. All isolates were able to infect the spear leaflets and to cause different leaf rots related to the species. The pathogenicity test showed that each Fusarium species caused different disease developments as consequence of planting conditions. Based on this study, it be concluded that F. semitectum, F. solani, and F. denticulatum are may cause of crown disease on oil palm seedlings.
