KETAHANAN BEBERAPA VARIETASJAGUNG MANIS (ZEA MAYS SACCHARATA STURT L.) TERHADAP SERANGAN PENYAKIT HAWAR DAUN (EXSEROHILUM TURCICUM) DI KECAMATAN INDRALAYA UTARA
Sweet corn (Zea mays Saccharata Sturt L.) is a very popular agricultural commodity and is an alternative crop for farmers. In the effort to increase production, there are important obstacles, namely attacks from disease groups that can interfere with the growth process of corn plants and there are several types of disease that can reduce yields and even cause crop failure. One of the main disease that can cause yield loss in maize up to 70% is leaf blight caused by the fungus Exserohilum turcicum (Pass.) Leonard et Sugss. The use of resistant varieties is an important measure to prevent the widespread occurrence of plant disease. The purpose of this study was to determine and study the level of resistance of several varieties of sweet corn againts leaf blight and to determine the varieties most resistant to Exserohilum turcicum fungal attack of leaf blight. This study used 4 varieties of sweet corn used as treatment, the method used was a randomized block design (RBD). Each treatment was repeated 6 time. The parameters observed were the incubation period, number, width and length of spots, disease severity, number of conidia per spot, environmental conditions, and crop yields. Based on the research result, it shows that the higher the disease severity, the lower the yields will be. The highest ear weight was found in teh Paragon variety while the lowest ear weight was in the Sweet Boy variety. The Sweet Boy variety is a variety that is slightly more susceptible to late blight while the Paragon variety is a variety that is resistant to late blight.
