STUDI SIFAT AGRONOMI DAN PERSILANGAN BEBERAPA KULTIVAR CABAI KERITING (CAPSICUM ANNUM L.) DENGAN CABAI RAWIT (CAPSICUM FRUTESCENS L.)
This research was to identify agronomic characters of several cultivars of red and cayenne peppers and to cross between those cultivars and produce seeds of F1 generation. The research was carried out in collaboration with farmers in Tanjung Pering, Ogan Ilir from March 2020 to August 2020. The study utilized Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of 12 cultivars, 3 blocks each consisted of 3 plant samples. The results showed that the agronomic properties of red and cayenne peppers varied depending on the cultivars. Curly pepper cultivars that had better agronomic properties were Lembang-1 and Tanjung-2 with plant height 71,22 and 82,22 cm; harvested at 81 and 72 day; fruit length 9,60 and 11,77 cm; fruit diameter 1,34 and 4,40 mm; fruit weight 6,48 and 9,93 g/fruit; and total production 0,15 and 0.88 kg/plant. These two cultivars have a spreading growth type. Cayenne pepper cultivars that had better agronomic properties were Taruna, Alip and Sakti with plant height 98,44, 102,33 and 102,11cm; harvested at 82, 84 and 67 day; fruit length 3,35, 4,16 and 40,4 cm; fruit diameter 2,95, 3,00 and 1,17 mm; fruit weight 1,22, 1,11 and 1,18 g/fruit and total production 0,33, 0,34 and 0,13kg/plant. Succesisvely these cultivars have intermediete, intermediete and spreading growth types. Furthermore, the best cross between Curly and Cayenne peppers derived from the cross of Lembang-1 x Jutex; Kawat x Genie; and Tanjung-2 x Sakti, with percentage of successful cross 20%, 20% and 100 % with seed number 74, 162 and 960 per cross.
