HUBUNGAN PERSEPSI TERHADAP PENYAKIT DENGAN KEPATUHAN PENDERITA KANKER PAYUDARA DALAM MENJALANI KEMOTERAPI
Breast cancer is a malignant tumor caused by many factors. Currently, cancer is still feared because people have a worng perception of this disease. This arises because when they are first diagnosed with cancer, they usually immediately seek as much information as possible about the disease in order to get well soon. When they receive information from an environment other than a doctor’s statement, they will have a different perspective. This perspective refers to the subjective response of patients and the environment based on their experiences. This study aimed to find out the correlation of illness perception and the compliance of breast cancer patients in undergoing chemotherapy treatment. This is a quantitative study using a cross sectional study. The samples were 49 respondents chosen by using purposive sampling. This study used Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ) and chemotherapy adherence. The data analysis used in this study was chi-square test. The results of the study showed that p-value = 0.019 meaning that there was statistically significant correlation of illness perception and the compliance of breast cancer patients in undergoing chemotherapy. Perception of disease could contribute in improving chemotherapy adherence. This showed that breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy needed a positive perception of their disease.
