KONVERGENSI MEDIA HARIAN PAGI SUMATERA EKSPRES
Media convergence is the integration of diverse information transmission media into one medium. Prior to media convergence, the media industry was divided into various subsidiaries, thus when media convergence occurred, media entrepreneurs combined all of the separate companies into one. At first, people sought information through purchasing newspapers, watching television or listening to the radio.The inception of new online based media changed the way people attaining all those media by utilizing smartphone which connected to the internet. This innovation creates new habit phenomenon where old media owners must be able to adjust by creating new innovation through convergence so that the media would not be abandoned. One of the media firms that uses convergence is Harian Pagi Sumatera Ekspres.The theory was used in this research is media convergence Theory by Rich Gordon (2004), which analyzes five dimensions, including, ownership, tactics, structure, information collection and news presentation.The research method was qualitative. The data was collected through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation studies. The result of this study shows that Sumeks has established horizontal and multi-platform integration in the ownership dimension. Sumeks has employed cross promotion on a tactical level. Sumeks has collaborated between divisions and partners in the structural dimension.Sumeks has also used new media in terms of acquiring information, and in terms of presenting news, Sumeks has innovated and kept up with the trends.
