KONTRIBUSI UNILEVER DALAM MENDUKUNG PERDAMAIAN DI REPUBLIK DEMOKRATIK KONGO TAHUN 2018-2020
This study examines the contribution of Unilever multinational companies in supporting peacebuilding in RDC. Unilever should have bigger role and high responsibility as a company that has been in RDC since 1930 and acquisition 67.800 km2 lands in RDC. Its existence is considered to have comparative advantage in bringing peace in RDC which has been difficult to achieve since 1960. Prolonged conflicts require the involvement of other parties because the local government has been unable to reduce conflict in the country, moreover this conflict grew to be the most complex, longest, and largest in African history. Involving 8 countries in Africa: Rwanda, Uganda, RDC, Sudan, Tanzania, Angola, Zambia, and the Central African Republic, and violates many gross human rights. This study aims to determine the role of multinational companies in peacebuilding also the develop of conflict resolution study. This study uses conflict resolution theory and the concept of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in Guiding Business Principles and Human Rights. The principles regarding business and human rights in the UN SDG’s are: 1.) Transparency; 2.) Stakeholder Consultation, Dialogue, and Action; 3.) Collective Responsible; 4.) Collaboration and Inclusion in Public Private Partnership; dan 5.) New Business Models, Capacity Building, and Effective Remedy used in the chapter IV writing framework. The result of this research is that Unilever has made several contribution in supporting peace in the area where their business operates. First, Unilever showed their commitment in Dodd Frank Act 1502 by declaring the company will respect, responsible, to their supply chains are clean from RDC’s minerals that are confirm contributed financing the war in RDCs. Unilever also uses their comparative advantage to high scale in promoting Africa’s peace around the world, campaign by their advertising, and giving seminars in RDC’s, providing skills to the women, etc. Keywords: Agent of Peace, Conflict Minerals, Republic Democratic Congo, SDG’s, Unilever
