PERILAKU KETERSEDIAAN DAN KEBUTUHAN BERAS DI SUMATERA SELATAN
The balance between the availability and needs for rice in an area is very important to be. The availability of rice that is smaller than the needs can create economic instability in a region. The aims of this study were: 1) to determine the availability and needs for rice in South Sumatra, 2) to analyze the factors that influence the availability of rice in South Sumatra, 3) to analyze the factors that influence the needs for rice in South Sumatra. The data collected in this study was secondary data using time series data for a period of 25 years, from 1996 to 2020. Data were collected from various agencies such as the Central Statistics Agency, the National Statistics Agency Food Security, South Sumatra Division of Regional Rice Logistics Agency and other agencies. The results of this study indicated that the availability of rice and the needs for rice in South Sumatra tend to fluctuate with an average growth of 2.62% and 0.07%. The availability of South Sumatra rice is able to meet its rice needs or South Sumatra always experiences a surplus of rice each year with an average surplus of 1 million tons per year. The availability of South Sumatra rice is significantly influenced by harvested area, rice prices, and the availability of rice in the previous year, while rice consumption, population and rice stock have no significant effect on rice availability in South Sumatra. The needs for rice is significantly influenced by income and population, while rice production, flour prices, and the needs for rice in the previous year have no significant effect on rice needs in South Sumatra.
